Seminar looks at Strengthening Culture in Herefordshire

A free seminar is being held on April 6th (10am-11am) to look ahead at Herefordshire's cultural and creative future.

Hosted by Herefordshire Cultural Partnership, the hour-long session - hosted on Zoom and open to anyone interested in Herefordshire's cultural scene - will celebrate multiple milestones from the county's cultural journey of the past decade, and then explore what's on the horizon including the major regeneration of Hereford Museum.

Speaking at the session will be:

  • Hugh James, senior relationship manager at Arts Council England
  • Angela James and Vicky Nicholson-James, directors of Acccessible Herefordshire
  • Damian Etheraads, Head of Museums at Herefordshire Council

Hugh will talk about ACE priorities, and the types of strategic investments that the Arts Council would look to continue to support in Herefordshire.

Angela and Vicky will explain why inclusion and access to and in culture is essential.

And Damian will share the latest plans for the total transformation of Hereford Museum on Broad Street, which - along with the relocation of Hereford Library to Maylords - represents more than £18m of investment coming the county's cultural scene.

There'll be a chance to ask speakers any questions, before attendees are invited to breakout rooms where they can drill down into specific topics, issues, challenges and opportunties, such as supporting Herefordshire's significant number of creative freelancers or how to attract and engage audiences.

Lauren Rogers, who will help run the session for Herefordshire Cultural Partnership (HCP) said: "It's three years since Covid lockdowns shook everyone, including the cultural sector, to the core and now feels like a good time to reflect on what's now happening and what's possible over the coming years."

Over the coming year HCP will be reviewing the Herefordshire Cultural Strategy and looking to engage cross-sector as part of it's role as a Cultural Compact.
